Analyzed is the theme of necessity of quantitative indicators for evaluation of effectiveness of scientific activity. In the center of the author’s attention is the problem, if science and society are in need of such. Solving this problem, the author expounds essence and meaning of biblio-metric approach to evaluation of results of scientific researches. In connection with that, in detail described and analyzed are twenty six of most known biblio-metric indicators. Shown is, that none of such would be guaranteeing adequate evaluation of results of scientific and research activity. Thus, the author makes a conclusion, that adequate evaluation of scientific activity might be getting only with the use of opinion of trustworthy experts. Also given is explanation for essence and meaning of discussion between bureaucrats as supporters of biblio-metric, on the one side, and scientists as opponents of it, on the other side.
